itinerary

Day 1 - Bogotá

Arrival in Bogotá and transfer to the selected hotel.

Day 2 - Puerto Carreño/El Tuparro National Park

You will meet your host at the Germán Olano airport in Puerto Carreno, and head towards the river port, where you will start navigating the Orinoco river towards Casuarito, a small village 90 kms away. During this first part of the expedition, you will have the opportunity to observe various ecosystems, endemic wildlife, such as forests, moss covered rocks and gallery forests. From Casuarito, you will continue the expedition towards the Mesetas creek, where you will head out on a 1 hour long hike towards El Tablón Port. During this hike, you will only carry your personal belongings, camera and hydration, while the rest of the luggage will be carried by boat. This way, you will enjoy the activity more. These river and creeks are home to the fastest and widest rapids in the world. From El Tablón, you will continue navigating the Orinoco river towards Garcitas community, where you will have lunch.

After lunch, you will embark on a motor moat at 14:00, heading out towards El Tuparro National Park, located 30 kms away from Garcitas. Once there, you will visit the Visitor Center, and then arrive at the camping site, located right on the Orinoco river beach. After you settle in, you will head to the Maipures rapids, named by Alexander von Humboldt as the 8th natural wonder of the world. You will return to the campsite at 17:30 for dinner, and recharge energy for the next day.

Day 3 - El Tuparro National Park/Attalea Trail/Caño Lapa

After breakfast, you will head out at 7:00 on this day’s expedition, through the Tuparro river, towards the Raudalito Cano Lapa indigenous community (Sikuani indigenous tribe). Once there, you will have the chance to learn about the casabe and manoco elaboration process,  as well as see the churatas, material with which they construct wooden things. Afterwards, you will head towards the Cano Lapa waterfall, where you will have the chance to rest, or enjoy a refreshing swim. You will return to the campsite at 12:30 for lunch. Afterwards, you will start the ascent to the Guahibo peak, from where you can enjoy the majestic sunset, and say goodbye to the beautiful natural sceneries of Vichada. Later on, you will have dinner and spend the night at the same base camp

Day 4 - El Tuparro National Park–Puerto Inírida

After breakfast, and packing your luggage, you will leave the base camp and navigate the Orinoco river towards the Maipures Visitor Center. From there, you will start a 1.5 km hike through a very rocky trail, towards Atarrayadero, from where you will embark and continue navigating towards Puerto Inirida. This expedition lasts approx 5 hours. During the expedition, you will have the opportunity to witness the river outlets of the Vichada, Mataven and Orinoco rivers. On the Mataven river outlet, you will stop for lunch and take a refreshing swim. Later on, you will continue the expedition towards Castillito, a majestic place from where you can appreciate the Coromote Virgen, patron saint of Venezuela. You will then head out towards the Estrella Fluvial del Sur, where the Orinoco, Guaviare and Atapabo rivers come together. You will continue navigating through the Guaviare river towards the Inirida river outlet, and from there, head towards Puerto Inirida, arriving at 16:00. As soon as you arrive, you will head towards the hotel, where you will settle in, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 5 - Puerto Inírida - Mavicure Hill

You will have breakfast at 6:30, and then head out by motor boat through the Inirida river, arriving at the foothills of the Mavecure hills, giant rock formations (part of the Escudo Guyanés, sacred location for various indigenous communities, since they are home to sacred ecosystems). On these foothills, you will find El Remanso, an indigenous community that lives there, and who will receive you for the night. Depending on the weather conditions, you might be able to hike the Mavecure hills that same day, but if it's raining, the path becomes slippery and extremely dangerous. If you cannot hike the hills, you will have the chance to participate in various activities with the community, exploring the surrounding savanna in search of the endemic Inirida flower, or visit San Joaquín creek and swim. Late in the afternoon, you will return to El Remanso for dinner and rest.

Day 6 - Mavicure Hills - Puerto Inírida

After an early breakfast, you will participate in the activities that you could not do on the day before (activities with the indigenous community, or climb the Mavecure Hills). After breakfast, you will head out to Puerto Inirida. On the way, you will stop by the Cano Matraca creek, searching for the freshwater dolphins (we do not guarantee that you will see them). In the afternoon, once settled into Puerto Inirida, you will have dinner and rest.

Day 7 - Puerto Inírida

After breakfast, you will visit the Coco indigenous community, observe the famous petroglyphs and enjoy the Vitina creek. You will then take a short urban tour of Puerto Inirida, where you will have time to shop for local crafts and souvenirs. You will head back to the hotel for lunch, and then your host will leave you at the Cesar Gaviria airport, where you will take your flight back to Bogota.

In case you need we can arrange an extra night(s) in Bogota or any other extension.
