Expedition to Colombia’s flatland. Natural Reserves Berlin Cattle Ranch, Guanapalo and Gaviotas

During these three days, you will visit 3 cattle ranches in Colombia's llanos that have focused their work guided into environmental preservation and nature tourism. You will learn about their sustainable projects, enjoy the beautiful landscapes and have a complete immersion in the llanero culture.

This trip is part of a project between one of our partners and the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID), that promotes nature tourism in critic areas with environmental vulnerability.

  •  Ground transportation in a 4x4 vehicle Yopal – Berlin Cattle Ranch – Gaviotas Natural Reserve – Natural Reserve Guanapalo Charm – Yopal.

  •  2 nights at a rural lodging farm type in the surroundings of Trinidad. Private bedrooms with single, double or multiple accommodation and private bathroom. (Subjected to availability).

  • 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 2 dinners (Typical gastronomy of the region). If you are vegan or vegetarian, please bring your own food, because it is very difficult to find options in these kinds of lodgings. Hydration during the tours.

  • Day passes to the Natural Reserves Berlin Cattle Ranch (Including horseback riding or a canoe ride to observe sunset activity), Gaviotas and Guanapalo Charm Natural Reserves (Including Plainsman Safari Activity).

  • Medical assistance card. Local Spanish-speaking guide.


  • Transportation: Air or ground transportation to and from Yopal.
  • Lodging: Additional nights in Yopal or Trinidad. We can add them to your reservation. Just ask us!
  • Meals: Dinner on the last day. Snacks.
  • Others: English or other languages guide. (If you require an English-speaking guide you can add it, just ask us). Voluntary contribution to the Natural Reserves, you can add it to your reservation.


Day 1- Arrival at Yopal

In the morning you will meet your host in Yopal, he can pick you up at the airport or any other point in the city, to have breakfast and head out together to Trinidad (2 hours' journey. Once there, you will visit the Berlin Cattle Ranch Natural Reserve. This cattle ranch has a strategic place to observe capybaras, spectacled caimans, turtles, monkeys, birds and another great variety of species, all these because savannahs and morichal palms surround the place, making it the perfect natural paradise. You will appreciate the sunset during a canoe tour through the lagoon or a horseback ride. You choose whichever you like the most.

Day 2 - Gaviotas Natural Reserve

After breakfast, you will head out to the Gaviotas Natural Reserve, located 40 km from San Luis de Palenque and 50 minutes car ride. If you travel between May and October, you will have the chance to visit the Garcero (Nesting and resting place for herons, cocoras, and ducks), during this season they are in their biggest splendor and you will explore the reserve in a canoe or horse-riding to enjoy the landscape. Between November and April, you can observe hundreds of spectacled caimans, the Araguato Monkey and the wild paujil (bird), among other traditional species of the eastern llanos (Plains).

Day 3 - Return to Yopal

After breakfast, you will head out to the Natural Reserve Encanto de Guanapalo (Guanapalo Charm), to take part in a plainsman safari that will take you to explore the savannahs looking for species such as the capybaras, cocoras, herons, savannah owls and if you are lucky enough white-tailed deers, giant anteater, and Howler monkeys. After enjoying a delicious traditional lunch you will return to Yopal (2-3 hours' journey) where the experience ends.

Note: The suggested itinerary can change depending on weather conditions or logistic issues, but we always try to fulfill all the activities included in the itinerary.
