  • As it is a national park, it is mandatory to be vaccinated against yellow fever. Depending on the airline, the presentation of the vaccination card is required.
  • National Parks prohibits the entrance of children under 5 years old for the trails.
  • The itinerary could have modifications due to the load capacity of the trails, which are assigned by the local environmental entities.
  • Lunch during the trails is served with cold cuts (wrapped in banana leaves), since it is a protected area and plastic is not allowed.
  • If you have any dietary restrictions (allergies, restricted foods), please let us know once you have made your your reservation.
  • The Caño Cristales ecosystem is very fragile, so please keep in mind that for the visit to the Cristalitos, Cristales and Pailones trails, the use of sunblock is the use of sunscreen, creams, repellents, or any other chemical repellents or any other chemical product that alter the water, affecting the plants.
  • It is also forbidden to bring plastic bottles and disposable plastic bottles and disposable containers. Bring a reusable reusable bottle.

itinerary


Day 1: La Macarena

Reception at La Macarena airport. Visit to Cormacarena and National Parks facilities to receive an introductory talk about the PNN Sierra de La Macarena. Transfer to the Guayabero River to embark on a wooden canoe with our luggage to our first visit of the trip: Caño Cristalitos - 20 minutes navigation upstream on the Guayabero River, spotting wildlife on the banks of the river until we arrive at the farm where we get ready for the hike. Ascent of 25 minutes until we reach El Mirador, a point on the mountain range with an exceptional view where our guide will talk to us about the ecosystems of La Macarena and the social history of the municipality. We will hike for 45 minutes until we reach Caño Cristalitos, where we can swim and have our first contact with the Macarenia clavigera, the famous plant that gives Caño Cristales its colors. Return to Guayabero to meet our canoe. Transfer by canoe to La Manigua Lodge. Afternoon rest with possible monkey watching from the cabins. Dinner at La Manigua Lodge.


Day 2: La Macarena

Breakfast at La Manigua Lodge. The time of our departure will be randomly assigned by Cormacarena and National Parks (it can be between 7am and 9am). Transfer by canoe downstream on the Guayabero River, we will take a 4x4 truck ride into the Sierra de La Manigua National Park. Upon arrival at the National Parks reception center, we will prepare for the hike by doing a brief warm up, we will walk for about 30 minutes until we reach our desired destination: Caño Cristales, once we are in Caño Cristales, we will start the trail that the environmental entities have assigned us.  In the National Park we will be around 7 hours, time in which we will walk the trail, have lunch, swim in natural pools and take many pictures of the colors and waterfalls of this wonderful river. At the end of the tour, we will return by the same route we did in the morning until we return to La Manigua Lodge. In the afternoon - evening we will enjoy a cultural activity that you will surely love. Dinner at La Manigua Lodge Day


Day 3: La Macarena

Breakfast at La Manigua Lodge. Departure time will be defined according to the time of the return flight. We will leave La Manigua reserve on foot to meet our horses. We will ride for 60 minutes through morichal forests and hills very characteristic of the llanero landscape until we reach Caño Piedra. If we have time, we will take the opportunity to swim in a pool of crystal clear water of the Caño.  We will return to La Manigua Lodge to pack our things and return to La Macarena by canoe. Depending on the flight schedule, we will have time for lunch. Transfer to the airport (The activities of this day will depend on the flight schedule.
